Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 19, 2026
This page explains, in plain language, what data Critic Atlas collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written to describe how the product works today and is not legal advice.
If anything here is unclear, or you want to make a privacy request, please contact us.
Information we collect
- Account and authentication data. When you sign up, we collect your email address and authentication details so you can log in and manage your account.
- Profile data. Your display name, profile address (slug), bio, avatar, and your public/private visibility setting.
- Activity and taste data. Game ratings, played and backlog status, aspect ratings, descriptor answers, and preference/taste-profile answers.
- Reviews and interactions. Reviews you write, follows, and reactions, along with whether your content is public or private.
- Cookies and session data.We use cookies and similar browser storage for authentication and core site functionality. See "Cookies and sessions" below.
How we use your information
- To provide and maintain your account and the service.
- To power recommendations and your Personalized Score. Your ratings, played status, descriptor answers, preference answers, and reviews may be used to personalize what you see.
- To display public profile content and public reviews to other users and visitors when you choose to make them public.
- To operate moderation and respond to reports.
Public and private profiles
You control your profile visibility. When your profile is public, your display name, bio, avatar, and public reviews can be visible to other users and visitors.
When your profile is private, you are not shown as an identity to other users. Private and non-public users may contribute only to thresholded, anonymous aggregate statistics used to improve recommendations.
Anonymous similar-user signals
Some recommendation features use aggregate signals from users with similar taste. These aggregate statistics are designed to never reveal individuals. In particular, they do not show user names, profile addresses, avatars, individual ratings, private review text, or lists of who contributed.
Aggregates are only used when product-safe thresholds are met, including a minimum number of distinct contributors and a limit on how much any single contributor can influence the result, so an "aggregate" is never effectively one person.
Service providers and data sharing
- Hosting and database. We use Supabase for authentication and database storage, and Vercel for hosting and deployment. Your account and activity data are stored with these providers as part of operating the service.
We do not sell your personal data. We use external review and game-data sources as described on our Attributions page.
Cookies and sessions
We use cookies and similar browser storage that are necessary for login, sessions, and core site functionality. We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics or tracking tools. If that changes, we will update this policy.
Your choices and requests
You can update much of your profile and taste data directly in the app. You can also contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data. These requests are handled manually, and we may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data, but no online service can guarantee perfect security. We cannot promise that your data will always be completely safe from unauthorized access.
Children
Critic Atlas is not directed to children. The service is intended for users who are old enough to form their own account under applicable law in their location. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
